Blagojevich Impeached!


So much for prediction #4 (see below). Jake was right (see comment section), the Illinois House impeached Blagojevich, and he still hasn't stepped down. In the next step, a trial will be held in the Illinois Senate to decide if the charges are true. He may still step before it comes to that, but I hesitate to make any more predictions about the Governors determination to stay in office.

A couple of comments/observations...

1) Blagojevich is the first governor impeach since the 1980s (Arizona I believe).

2) The Illinois House has to revote for impreachment next week when the new legislative session is sworn in. This should be a formality.

3) Per the New York Times, it is unclear when the Illinois Senate will take up the trial.

This is classic politics that we have not seen in a long time.

I hope hope he steps down...but i am not betting on it.
